Study Australia Industry Experience Program continues to deliver impressive results.

In July 2021, with State and Territory Study Australia Partnership (SAP) members, Australian providers and delivery partner Practera, Austrade launched the national flagship program – Study Australia Industry Experience Program (SAIEP).  

SAIEP offers free virtual placements to international students and transcends borders within and outside of Australia. It teams current international students onshore and offshore with small groups of Australian and other international students, forming teams of 5-6 students from various demographics. The program is designed to: facilitate peer-to-peer and cross-border student networks, build global and multi-disciplinary student perspectives, and enhance student employability. 

These multi-disciplinary teams work directly with businesses on real-world projects, providing mutual benefits to students and businesses alike. The program offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge, enjoy an enhanced ‘work integrated learning’ student experience, demonstrate their skills and capability, and build their international peer-to-peer networks. 

In the first year, SAIEP engaged 1910 international and domestic students from 54 institutions across all Australian states and territories in authentic industry projects with more than 240 Australian and global employers. The program continued this engagement with students, institutions and employers in its April and July 2022 cohorts with 427 international and domestic students from 14 institutions engaging with 67 Australian and global employers.  

The program maintained an average of student willingness to recommend the program to their peers at 87% and the client willingness to recommend it to their business networks at 87% as well. The SAIEP April and July 2022 report details the student and business outcomes and provides testimonials from participating students and businesses.

Shortlisted as a finalist in the Employability International Impact Award category of PIEoneer Awards 22, the next cohorts of SAIEP will run in September and November 2022.
