Dr Jharana Bhattarai Aryal

Dr Jharana Bhattarai Aryal serves as a Lecturer in Human Services Management at Southern Cross Institute (SCI), with over 15 years of experience in Australian higher education, the human services sector, and not-for-profit organisations. Her expertise encompasses organisational management, governance frameworks, policy formulation, strategic planning, and community engagement, with substantial involvement in charities registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), as well as community initiatives in Australia.

Her professional experience includes substantial contributions to teaching and research, alongside project collaborations with both the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). This diverse experience enables her to integrate scholarly research with practical applications in policy implementation.

In her teaching, Dr Aryal employs an interdisciplinary approach that equips students with the critical analytical capabilities necessary to navigate complex socio-political systems. Her research examines the influence of institutional structures and governance models on participation and access to decision-making processes, with a particular focus on diverse and marginalised populations. Central themes of her work include inclusive governance, participatory decision-making, and equity within public service frameworks.

Adopting an applied, practice-informed research approach, Dr Aryal’s research examines multilevel governance systems and the implementation of inclusive policies across different contexts. She collaborates with public and private sector stakeholders to produce evidence that advances responsive institutions and accountable governance. Her broader research interests include human services governance, social policy analysis, policy evaluation, community development strategies, stakeholder engagement dynamics, sustainability, and the implications of demographic shifts and digital innovation for governance structures.
