Advanced Standing Application Assessment

All applications of Advanced Standing are assessed in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Credit Transfer Policy and Procedure by the Dean or nominee. The student is advised in writing of the decision within ten (10) working days of receipt of the application provided the submitted application had all required documents.

Application Deadline

All applications must be received by the published deadlines. Please check the Institute’s website for submission dates.

Application Conditions

Students can only apply for Advanced Standing at the beginning of their course. Advanced Standing applications received by current students’ mid-way through their course or for units already attempted will be rejected.

Advanced Standing Assessment Rules

• Students may obtain Advanced Standing for up to 50% of course in Bachelor of Business course.
• Evidence of a minimum of 80% coverage of unit content for an exemption to be granted.
• Previous study graded as Advanced Standing cannot be used for Advanced Standing into SCI Bachelor of Business course.
• Advanced standing is not granted on the basis of prior study where the prior study occurred more than ten (10) years ago. A shorter timeframe than ten (10) years may be applied where there have been recent or significant changes in the relevant field of study since the prior study occurred.
• Approved study must be at a comparable Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level. Examples of approved study Qualifications from accredited Australian Higher Education institutions or equivalent overseas institutions as assessed by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).

Note

While SCI takes every effort to ensure that Advanced Standing for accounting subjects meet the criteria of professional accounting bodies, it is up to the discretion of the professional accounting bodies whether to accept the Advanced Standing granted by SCI. SCI encourages students applying for Advanced Standing for accounting subjects to seek advice from the relevant professional accounting body prior to applying.

After reviewing the structure of your course, use this section to identify the units in your course which you are requesting to have assessed for credit and the corresponding units you have already completed. Please attach additional sheet(s) if you require more space.

The following documents must be provided with this application:

• A certified copy of the Transcripts from the institution(s) at which the previous studies were undertaken. Academic Director can certify copies if required. This documentation is to be provided in English.
• Unit/Course synopses for which you are seeking Credit Transfer, including academic level and hours. In considering applications, SCI should be able to compare all aspects of the units/courses against which you are claiming academic credit at SCI.
