Dr Deborah Wilmore

BIO
Dr Deborah Wilmore is the Academic Director in Human Services Management within the Bachelor of Business course at Southern Cross Institute (SCI). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology, a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours Class I) and a Bachelor of Social Science with Distinction from Western Sydney University.
With more than 15 years of experience in higher education, Dr Wilmore has worked extensively in academic leadership, course coordination, teaching, curriculum development and student transition. Before joining SCI, she held senior roles in teaching, curriculum design and development, and first-year experience coordination at Western Sydney University and Western Sydney University – The College. In 2021, she received a High Commendation at The College Teaching Excellence Awards for her contribution to maintaining educational continuity during the rapid transition to online learning.
Dr Wilmore’s principal professional interest is the design of engaging and effective learning experiences. Her work explores how thoughtful pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and teaching practices can support educators to teach effectively while encouraging students to participate actively, think critically and connect academic theory with professional practice. Her current work includes strengthening curriculum coherence, developing authentic and scaffolded assessments, enhancing educator capability, promoting student engagement and supporting the responsible integration of generative artificial intelligence into teaching, learning and assessment.
Her broader academic interests include sociology, particularly critical approaches to gender, as well as ethical leadership, workforce capability, cultural diversity and inclusive education. Through her teaching and academic leadership, Dr Wilmore is committed to creating inclusive, evidence-informed learning environments that support diverse learners and promote student success, educator capability and high academic standards.
